STEAMED DAHI BHALLA (without oil)


  • Ingredients#
  • 1 cup Urad dal
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 2-inch piece of ginger (grated)
  • 2 green chillies (chopped very fine)
  • 3 cups yogurt (thick fresh, should not be sour)
  • Red chilli powder to taste
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. chaat masala
  • 2 tsp. cumin seeds (roasted gently and ground into a fine powder)
  • Pinch of hing
  • Mithi chutney 1/2 cup 
  • Green chutney 1/2 cup
  • Coriander leaves chopped 1/3 cup
  • Peanut 4 table spoon
  • Bhujia namkeen 4 tablespoon
  • Tomato ketchup 4 tablespoon

  • # Methods#
  • 1###Soak the urad daal in a bowl of water for 2 hours .after 2 hours , Grind it with green chillies,1/2 inch ginger, salt to taste and make into a paste t. Do not add any water while grinding.


  • 2 -Mix1 cup of yoghurt with 1/2  cups of water and 1/3 of milk and keep aside.

  • Now we place the batter at idli stand and cook for 15minutes with high steam...grees the tray and put the batter as barha style and put to steamer.

  • After 15minutes bara will be ready and then take a big bowl of hot water and all bhallas are shoked at hot water for 5 minutes...mixed it pinch of salt and drops of hing at hot water

  • Remove from the water mix and press gently between your palms. Arrange these vadas in a deep platter as you prepare them.
  • When all urad daal paste is used up and the the vadas are done as above and in the platter, pour the thick yoghurt mix over them to cover completely.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and , peanut,chatmasla, roasted cumin powder, namkeen and Mithi chutney + green chutney
